Feast and Famine At times, it’ll seem like all your clients have plotted together to all call you at once, and then not call you at all for a month. And repeat that cycle until you’ve gone stark raving mad. The feast/famine dichotomy, while common, isn’t inevitable. If you’re disciplined about marketing yourself consistently (few of us are), you should have a steady flow of work. Getting to a point where you can pick and choose among many jobs is a nice problem.

Unfortunately, in most cases, human nature usually prevails: we market a bunch, get work, stop marketing, only to resume after the job’s done. The result? Alternating periods of being swamped and dead in the water. C’est la vie…
